What is the process for implant-supported bridges?
The number of implants required to support your bridge will be detailed in your treatment plan and will depend on your individual dental needs. Dental implants are typically made from titanium or zirconia and, once placed, act as a replacement for the missing tooth root. This is a routine procedure that is usually carried out under local anaesthetic.
After placement, the implant needs around three to six months to heal and fuse with the jawbone, creating a strong and stable foundation for your new teeth. Temporary replacement teeth (a provisional bridge) are often fitted at the same appointment as the implant placement and will remain in place until your final restoration is ready.
Once healing is complete, a small connecting piece known as an abutment is attached to the implant to secure your bridge. Abutments are available in titanium, gold, or porcelain, and may be standard or custom-made to suit your smile. These options allow for varying aesthetic outcomes based on your preferences.
Finally, your permanent dental bridge is fitted to restore your missing teeth, with your dentist carefully matching its colour to blend seamlessly with your natural teeth.
